MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Trojan volleyball team dropped its fourth straight match as they fell to East Division rival Middle Tennessee 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-21) on the road Saturday night.
The Trojans (11-15, 6-8) were led by Meghan Gilroy who recorded 17 kills on 44 total attack attempts. Megan Henderson posted 26 assists for the Trojans. Defensively, Emily Strader paced the Trojans with eight digs.
In the first set, the Trojans fell behind early 8-2 and could never recover as they fell to the Blue Raiders 25-11.
The Trojans came out and stuck with Middle Tennessee (19-7, 12-1) throughout much of the second set. The two sides were tied as late as 15-15. Unfortunately, that is when the Blue Raiders scored five of six to go ahead 20-16. The Trojans battled back to within two at 22-20, 23-21 and 24-22. The Blue Raiders clinched the set 25-22.
The Trojans found themselves slowly losing ground in the third set and at one point were down by six at 19-13. However, they battled back and scored six of eight points to get within two at 21-19. Unfortunately, the Trojans could only manage two more points as they fell in the third set, 25-21.
The Trojans will be back in action on Tuesday night when they play host to UAB at Trojan Arena at 7 p.m. The match has been moved from November 10. Check back with TroyTrojans.com for more news and notes from the volleyball court, as well as all of Troy Athletics.
