Alex Hupp begins her second season as assistant coach for the Trojans. She joined the staff in 2016 following one season as the top assistant at East Tennessee State and a two-year stint at South Dakota State. A native of Olathe, Kan., Hupp served as the interim head coach at South Dakota State for the 2014 season after one year as an assistant for the Jackrabbits.
Prior to her tenure at South Dakota State, Hupp had two successful seasons as an assistant coach at Emporia State. She helped lead the Hornets to a combined 84-27 record over her two seasons with back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Division II Regionals, including an appearance in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional final in 2012.
Hupp enjoyed a standout career at Nebraska, where she saw time in the circle and in the field, as she amassed 58 total pitching appearances and 239 career at bats. In her first career start in the circle, Hupp threw a shutout versus Portland State to become the first Husker to throw a shutout in her first start since All-American Peaches James in 2001.
As a sophomore, Hupp emerged as Nebraska’s No. 2 starter, tossing 133 innings, including a no-hitter versus Northern Colorado in 2008. In that game, she struck out 12 batters to go along with a solid day at the plate with a pair of hits and two RBIs.
Hupp helped lead Olathe East High School to three consecutive Class 6A state championships from 2004-06, earning First Team High School All-America Honors in 2006 along with being named the 2005-06 Gatorade Softball Player of the Year for the state of Kansas. Hupp finished her high school career with a 69-1 record in the circle.
