Chip Lindsey
- Title:
- Quarterbacks
Alabama native Chip Lindsey joins the Troy staff for the 2010 season after a successful 10 year period in the high school ranks that included stints with two of the top programs in the southeastern United States. His main charge as quarterbacks coach will be to mentor and develop the next Troy passer that follows in the footsteps of 2010 NFL draftee Levi Brown.
Lindsey comes to Troy from Lassiter High School in Marietta, Ga., where he was the head coach from 2008-09. In 2009, Lindsey led Lassiter to a perfect regular season record of 10-0 and the school's first-ever region championship.
The team advanced to the state quarterfinals for the first time in school history and finished the year at 12-1. For his efforts, Lindsey was named the Marietta Daily Journal Cobb County Coach of the Year, Cobb County Touchdown Club Coach of the Year and Atlanta Falcons Class AAAAA Coach of the Year.
In his first season at the helm of the Trojans, Lindsey engineered a nine win season after taking over in February. The win total was the highest in school history and he also coached the team to its first-ever playoff victory. He earned the first of two consecutive MDJ Cobb County and Cobb County Touchdown Club Coach of the Year awards. He was also named Georgia's 2008 Associated Press Coach of the Year.
While at Lassiter High, Lindsey guided the development Parade All-American and Georgia quarterback signee Hutson Mason. Mason broke every single-season state passing record in 2009 including passing yards (4,560) and touchdowns (54).
Prior to his appointment at Lassiter, Lindsey served as the offensive coordinator in 2007 at Alabama powerhouse program Hoover High School. Under his guidance on offense, the team finished the season 10-2 and advanced to the third round of the state playoffs.
Lindsey's first experience as a high school head coach came from 2005-06 as the lead man at Colbert Heights High School in Tuscumbia, Ala.
There he inherited a program that had won a combined five games over its three previous seasons. All Lindsey did was match that win total with a 5-5 season in 2005, then follow that up with a 9-3 season in 2006 that included a trip to the second round of the state playoffs.
Nine wins was the most in Colbert Heights' history. The season also included the school's first-ever playoff victory. The turnaround at Colbert Heights garnered Lindsey his first coaching award as the Florence Times-Daily made him its 2006 1A-3A Coach of the Year.
Lindsey spent the 1997-2004 seasons in various assistant coach roles around the state of Alabama.
Lindsey is a 1997 graduate of the University of Alabama with degrees in History and English. He lettered in football at the University of North Alabama in 1992. He also owns a master's degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix.
Originally a native of Madison, Ala., Lindsey graduated from Bob Jones High School in 1992. He is married to the former Cecily Pharr of Sheffield, Ala. The couple has four children: Claire (6), Cooper (3), Caroline (3) and Conner (2).
