Weathers on Cousy Award Watch List

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Troy junior point guard, Will Weathers, has been named a candidate for the 2012 Bob Cousy Award. The award is given annually to college basketball's top point guard.
Weathers not only leads the Trojans in scoring at 13.5 points per game, he is also the Sun Belt's assists leader at 6.0 per game, a mark that ranks 21st in the nation. Weathers sets up a Trojan offense that sits third in the country with 10.6 three-pointers per game.
The New Orleans native ranks in the Sun Belt's Top 10 this season in scoring (13.5), assists (6.0), free throw percentage (77.8), steals (1.8), assists/turnover ratio (1.9) and minutes (31.4).
The Bob Cousy Award given out by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and is named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy.
The original list of candidates will be narrowed down to a final 20 by Jan. 1, final 10 by Feb. 1, and final five by March 1. A premier Selection Committee will be appointed by the Hall of Fame to review the final five candidates in contention for the nation's top collegiate point guard award
Former winners include Jameer Nelson (St. Joseph's), Raymond Felton (North Carolina), Dee Brown (Illinois), Acie Law (Texas A & M), DJ Augustin (Texas), Ty Lawson (North Carolina), Greivis Vasquez (Maryland) and last year's recipient Kemba Walker (Connecticut).
Weathers and the Trojans will be back on the floor on Tuesday as they host Southern Utah at Sartain Hall. Troy will then host UTSA on Thursday at Sartain Hall before breaking for Christmas. Troy will kick-off Sun Belt play after Christmas with a trip to Denver and North Texas.
