Troy Announces Mid-Year Football Signees

TROY, Ala. – Troy football head coach Larry Blakeney announced the signing of 14 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the mid-year signing period. The class consists of 11 junior college transfers, two grayshirts and a FBS transfer.
“We filled a lot of needs with this mid-year group especially on the defensive side of the ball,” Blakeney said. “We feel good about the group as a whole. There are a couple of guys that we had to send to junior college and they were successful academically, successful as players and the reports were that they were good citizens while they were there so we brought them back mid-year.”
Among the players signed by the Trojans include a pair of three-star rated prospects by Rivals.com in quarterback Deon Anthony and offensive lineman Chris Hawkins. Anthony is also rated as the second best dual-threat quarterback in the nation by 247Sports.com. Punter Will Scott earned second team All-America honors at Gulf Coast Community College after averaging 43.3 yards per punt last season.
The Trojans also welcomed defensive tackle Lonnie Gosha to campus after he transferred from Arkansas. The Mobile Press-Register ranked Gosha as the No. 100 prospect in its "Super Southeast 120" and Rivals.com pegged him as the No. 31 overall recruit in the state of Florida when he signed with the Razorbacks last year. Cornerback Chris Davis and place kicker Ryan Kay signed with the Trojans after taking a grayshirt last season.
National Signing Day for players enrolling in the fall is Wednesday, Feb. 1.
