PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – Senior Sofia Bjorkman shot a first round four-under par to lead the Trojans with a team score of 301 and third place result after day one of the Golfweek Program Challenge, while Tolver Dozier completed round one at one-under par to pace the men to a score of 296 and a 10th place standing.
Bjorkman committed two bogeys on the front nine, but birdied a third of the 18 holes to finish day one tied for the individual lead with Campbell's Brooke Bellomy.
Sophomore Langley Vannoy shot an even-par 71 to finish round one tied for fifth with Central Arkansas' Julia Roth and Malin Senneryd, and Boston College's Isabel Southard. Vannoy carded two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine, but rebounded on the back nine for an even-par performance as the Trojans' second place finisher on the day.
Taylor McGraw opened play with back-to-back double bogeys and went on to card six bogeys and one more double bogey to finish the day tied for 38th at 10-over par.
Sydney Conrad began play at just three-over par through the first nine, but struggled with three bogeys and two double bogeys on the back nine to finish round one tied for 44th at 11-over.
Sara Fennvik's results turned out to be much like Conrad's as she was just five-over through the first nine, but dropped four bogeys and three double bogeys to finish tied for 57th at 15-over par.
Campbell shot just a two-over par 286 to lead the field of 12 at the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and head into Monday's second round with a 14 stroke advantage.
Dozier got off to a good start to lead the men as he birdied the first hole and went on to birdie the last of the front nine. A birdie on the 10th sent Dozier to three-under par, but a double bogey on the 11th put him back to one-under. A birdie and a double bogey on 15 and 16 allowed Dozier to finish day one at one-under par tied for 12th.
Like last season, Jake Tucker finished not far behind Dozier as he carded a first round two-over to sit tied for 32nd heading into Monday's second round. He carded a double bogey, birdie and a bogey on the front nine before managing even-par on the back nine to finish with a two-over, tie for 37th performance.
In his collegiate debut, freshman Jacob Harper committed just five bogeys to go along with two birdies to finish day one at four-over par tied for 37th.
Phillip Brennan sat at just two-over par after the 17th hole, but a double bogey on the final cup led to a four-over par, tie for 43rd performance.
Wil Clowdus managed just a one-over par after the first ten holes, but four bogeys on the remaining eight resulted in a five-over par, tie for 49th.
James Madison led the 12 teams at the True Blue Plantation with a seven-under par, 281 performance to top Campbell, who finished just one stroke behind the Dukes.
Clowdus will once again be the first to tee-off for the men at 8:20 Monday morning, and Brennan, Harper, Tucker and Dozier will follow in 10 minute increments.
Fennvik will tee-off first for the women, also at 8:20, and Conrad, McGraw, Vannoy and Bjorkman will follow in 10 minute increments.
