Trojans Wrap Up Georgia Invitational
1/20/2013 6:49:00 PM | Tennis (W)
ATHENS, Ga. – The Troy women's tennis team wrapped up the Georgia Invitational on Sunday with singles play against the host, No.6 Georgia.
A day after Troy took a doubles match from the nationally-ranked Bulldogs, Georgia sent out three nationally-ranked singles players against the Trojans. Troy lost all six matches on the day in straight sets.
Candela Munoz Giron put up the biggest fight on any Trojan and nearly pulled off a 3-0 weekend, but the sophomore fell to UGA's Lill Kimbell, 7-6 (11-9), 7-5. Munoz Giron won her singles matches on Friday and Saturday.
Georgia's lineup featured ITA ranked No.8 Lauren Herring, No.54 Kate Fuller and No.76 Makenzie Craft.
Full results from Troy's action on Sunday are below.
Sunday was the final day of the three-day event that featured Troy, Georgia, No. 58 Memphis and No.67 Kansas State. The tournament featured individual play, rather than duel matches, which are typically found during the spring.
The Trojans (0-1) now take a bit of a break before returning to the court on Saturday, February 2, when they travel to UALR.
