Clough Earns Sun Belt's NCAA Woman of the Year Nomination
Men's Track and Field Finishes Season Regionally Ranked
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Five members of the Troy University track and field team, as well as both the men's and women's squads, have been acknowledged by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for academic excellence.
Lizzy Clough and Jasmine Patton earned All-Academic honors on the women's side, while Nicolo Bolla, Larry Henry and Benjamin Martin were acknowledged on the men's side. Both Clough and Henry gained this honor for the second time in their careers. Henry made the All-Academic team last season, while Clough made her first in 2010.
"Academically it has been a great year for our program," head coach Jill Lancaster said. "We are delighted with our team's academic performance and the recognition they have once again received from the coaches association.
"This is the second All-Academic recognition for graduate student Larry Henry and senior Elizabeth Clough. All of these athletes have represented themselves and this school at the highest level and value every opportunity Troy University offers. Our athletes truly appreciate Mr. Mayotte and his staff for their efforts and support in academic services."
In order to qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade-point-average and qualify for the NCAA First Round.
Both squads also earned All-Academic team honors. The women posted a team GPA of 3.23, while the men finished at 3.08. The Sun Belt Conference was well represented, with four schools (North Texas, UALR and Western Kentucky) having both the men's and women's programs recognized. It is the third consecutive year that the women's team has received the honor, while the men have now done it in back-to-back years. Troy's cross country teams are also no strangers to academic success, as the women's team earned All-Academic Team status this season.
Clough was victorious in the javelin at the Sun Belt Championships and threw well at the NCAA First Round. Patton earned a trip to the NCAA First Round in the 100-meter hurdles after taking fourth at the SBC Championships.
Bolla placed second at the SBC Championships and advanced all the way to the NCAA Championships, where he finished 15th and earned second-team All-America honors. Martin won the 100-meters at the SBC Championships, earning a spot in the NCAA First Round. Henry took second at the conference championships and competed well at the NCAA First Round.
