TROY, Ala. – In just his first year in professional baseball, former Troy first baseman Trae Santos has been selected to the Northwest League All-Star Game, the league announced on Thursday.
The Barrigada, Guam native is hitting .270 with the Eugene Emeralds, the short-season Single-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, while recording three home runs, nine doubles and 12 RBIs in 38 games. Thursday night, Santos delivered his first walk-off base hit of his professional career to lead the Ems to a 5-4 win.
Santos's all-star selection marked the third straight year a former Trojan will play in a minor league all-star game, following T.J. Rivera's appearance in the 2012 South Atlantic League All-Star Game and Clint Robinson's selection to the 2011 Triple-A All-Star Game.
In his only season at Troy, Santos finished third in the NCAA with 18 home runs, which marked the most by a Trojan in the BBCOR era. Santos also led the Trojans with 70 RBIs, which ranked third in single-season history as well as sixth in the country in 2013.
A 17th-round draft pick in June's MLB Player's Draft, Santos along with three other Emeralds teammates will participate on the South Division's team in the Northwest League's All-Star Game on Aug. 6 in Everett, Wash.
