UL Monroe’s Hot First Half Downs Trojans

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball team saw UL Monroe shoot 54 percent in the first half on its way to a 15-point halftime lead and an 83-72 win over the Trojans on Thursday night at Trojan Arena.
Troy (4-12, 0-5) got 32 points from Joanna Harden, but got outrebounded 55-38 as ULM dominated the glass, especially in the first half. Troy has now lost eight straight games.
ULM made 20-of-37 shots in the first half and outrebounded the Trojans 29-13 on its way to building a 48-33 lead at the break.
After trailing by as many as 17 early in the second half, the Trojans cut the lead down to nine points with 4:21 to go. Troy held ULM without a field goal for the final 6:44, but the Warhawks (7-9, 3-1) made 15 free throws over that span to remain ahead.
Troy held the Warkawks to 27 percent (8-of-30) in the second half, but made just 37 percent (14-of-38) themselves. Troy shot 37 percent (27-of-73) in the game but took nearly half as many free throws as ULM. Troy was 14-of-18 from the line, while ULM was 24-of-34.
ULM was led in scoring by Elexar Tugler who scored 17 points while Alayshia Hunter had 15 points and 15 rebounds.
Ashley Beverly-Kelley joined Harden in double figures for Troy with 10 points. Harden took 12 of Troy's 18 free throws and finished 10-of-12 from the stripe. Beverly-Kelley made two of Troy's four 3-pointers.
The Trojans return to the floor on Saturday when UL Lafayette visits Trojan Arena. Tipoff is set for 5:15 p.m. in a game that is the first half of a doubleheader with the Troy men's basketball team.
