TROY, Alabama – Former UAB cornerback Lamarcus Farmer has signed a grant-in-aid agreement with the Troy football program, Troy head coach Neal Brown announced Friday. Farmer will be immediately eligible to play in the 2015 season.
Â
A three-year starter for the Blazers, Farmer finished the 2014 season with 25 tackles, two interceptions, 70 interception return yards, three pass break ups and a fumble recovery. A native of Pensacola, Fla., Farmer has 20 career starts under his belt, including five during the 2014 season.
Â
"Lamarcus is a veteran player and will come in and compete immediately in our program," Brown said. "What happened at UAB is very unfortunate and we really feel for all of the players and staff who were effected by those events. We're glad that Lamarcus has decided to join our family and we look forward to having his experience on the field."
Â
Farmer battled an injury in 2013 but still managed to start five games and finish with 34 tackles and an interception. After walking on at UAB following his prep career at West Florida Tech, Farmer made an immediate impact his freshman season as he started 10 games and finished fifth on the team with 50 tackles. Farmer led UAB with eight pass break ups to go along with four tackles for loss.
Â
"Obviously he is an experienced guy who has played a lot of football," Troy defensive coordinator Vic Koenning said. "Lamarcus has been a very productive player throughout his career at UAB and should give us a great jumpstart on putting together this defense."
Â
Farmer joins linebackers William Lloyd and Justin Lucas from East Mississippi Community College and cornerback Jalen Rountree from Coffeyville Community College as mid-year additions to the Troy roster. Lloyd, Lucas and Rountree all signed National Letters of Intent on Wednesday.
