Trojans Pressure UT Arlington in Sixth Straight Home Win

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball team won its sixth straight home game with an 88-72 win over UT Arlington on Wednesday night at Trojan Arena. The win moves Troy into a tie for fifth place in the Sun Belt standings with one regular season game remaining.
Troy (12-16, 8-9) forced 32 UTA turnovers in the contest, while committing just 11 themselves. The Trojans outscored the Mavericks in points off turnovers, 24-9.
Joanna Harden paced the Trojans with 24 points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists. The 20-plus point effort was the 14th straight for Harden who has cracked 20 in all but four games this season.
Brooke Bowie set a career-high with five 3-pointers and scored 15 points while three other Trojans scored eight points, including Ashley Beverly-Kelley who had a game-high six assists.
The Trojans hit 11 3-pointers and actually shot a better percentage from deep (40 percent, 11-of-27) than from the field (37 percent, 31-of-83). Bowie was one of five different Trojans to make a trey on the night.
Troy took 17 more shots than UT Arlington thanks to the pressure defense. The 32 turnovers were the second most forced by the Trojans this season while the +21 differential was the best.
UT Arlington (4-24, 3-14) got 22 points and 11 rebounds from Briana Walker off the bench as she was one of three to score in double figures. Desherra Nwanguma also had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The Mavericks turnover problems started early and a 12-2 Troy run had the Trojans up by double digits less then eight minutes into the game. Troy never looked back and led by as many 24 in the game.
Troy entered the game tied for sixth place in the Sun Belt standings with UL Monroe and UL Lafayette, both of whom lost on Wednesday night. Troy was a game behind fifth-place Georgia State who also lost.
The Trojans close the regular season on Saturday when Texas State visits Trojan Arena at 5:15 p.m. The game will mark Senior Night as Troy will honor Brooke Bowie, Joanna Harden and Dominique Ross in their final home game.
