Coleman Chosen for WBCA “So You Want To Be A Coach” Program
1/13/2015 3:16:00 PM | Basketball (W)
TROY, Alabama – Troy women's basketball senior Kourtney Coleman has been selected to participate in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association 12th annual "So You Want To Be A Coach" program.
Each of the 50 members of the 2015 class will participate in a three-day workshop that will be held in conjunction with the annual WBCA National Convention, which will take place April 3-5, at the NCAA Women's Final Four in Tamp, Fla.
"This is an amazing opportunity and I'm thankful for the chance to be a part of the 'So You Want To Be A Coach' program," Coleman said. "Coaching is something I've always wanted to do and this is an awesome platform to get started.
"My time at Troy has been a one of a kind experience and I would not change this journey I've had for anything. Something like this opportunity for me shows that this program and its players are moving in the right direction."
The WBCA's "So You Want To Be A Coach" program is a collaborative effort between the WBCA and the NCAA to provide female student-athletes with an experience that becomes the foundation of a successful coaching career. The WBCA has assembled a group of experienced coaches and administrators who will serve as resources to share their knowledge, as well as provide networking opportunities, which will help in securing a coaching position.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for Kourtney," Troy head coach Chanda Rigby said. "We're glad to play a part in her getting this opportunity. She will learn so much and have a great chance to network with coaches."
In order to be considered for selection, candidates must have exhausted their final year of basketball eligibility or have graduated within the year. Participants are chosen based on their academics, contributions to women's basketball on and off the court, professional resume and a written recommendation from their head coach.
Coleman, a Holly Springs, Miss., native, is the only fourth-year senior of the Troy roster. She has played in 101 career games for the Trojans and just played in her 100th consecutive game in Troy's win over Georgia State.
She tied a career-high with 27 points in the 96-87 win over the Panthers, including a career-high six 3-pointers. The Trojans have won three straight games and are off to a 3-1 start in Sun Belt play for the first time in program history.
Coleman and the Trojans return to the court on Thursday when they travel to take on ULM at Fant-Ewing Coliseum at 5:15 p.m. The Trojans return home on Saturday when they host Georgia Southern at 2 p.m. at Trojan Arena.
