Trojans Wrap Up Non-Conference Slate with SEC Network Showdown

OXFORD, Mississippi – The Troy men's basketball team hits the road for its final non-conference game of the season at Ole Miss on Tuesday. Tip between the Trojans and Rebels is slated to start at 3 p.m.
The game, which can be seen on the SEC Network, will feature commentary from Dave Neal and Daymeon Fishback. The matchup between the Trojans and Rebels can also be heard on the Troy Sports Radio Network with Barry McKnight and Jerry Miller.
Troy (5-5) is coming off a 85-77 victory over Paine College. The Trojans were led by John Walton's fourth career double-double, as he poured in 22 points while reeling in 19 rebounds, one shy of Troy's single game Division I record. Following his performance, Walton was named College Sports Madness Sun Belt Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Wesley Person earned his 34th career game in double figures in thanks to a career-high six treys. He finished the night with 28 points, while Jordon Varnado chipped in 12 points and secured eight rebounds.
Person leads the Trojans averaging 18.0 points per contest, which is good for the third-best in the Sun Belt, while Varnado follows closely behind with 17.7. Person currently ranks 16th in the NCAA, averaging 3.5 treys per contest.
Varnado is making his mark amongst freshmen in the nation. The Brownsville, Tenn., native currently ranks fourth amongst all NCAA freshmen in points per contest (17.7) and field goal percentage (57.9). He has also totaled five double-doubles in the first 10 games, which is the second most amongst freshmen in the country.
Varnado is 1-of-4 Sun Belt players to rank in the top 10 in points and rebounds. He joins Preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year nominee Shawn Long, Preseason All-Sun Belt Second Team pick Frank Eaves, the Sun Belt's leading scorer, and UT Arlington's Kevin Hervey.
Ole Miss (9-2) is in the midst of a six-game win streak and will be playing their final game at Tad Smith Coliseum, before moving to its new facility, the Pavilion. Most recently, the Rebels posted an 85-79 win on the road at Memphis – all five Rebel starters earned double figure points in the win, and they were led by the SEC's leading scorer, who also ranks seventh in the NCAA, Stefan Moody. Meanwhile, Martavious Moody and Sebastian Saiz both tallied double-double nights in the victory.
Ole Miss has posted wins over the Sun Belt's Georgia Southern (82-72) and Georgia State (68-59) at home this year. The Rebels faced Troy opponent Seton Hall, also at the Prudential Center. Ole Miss fell to Seton Hall, 75-63, while the Pirates also defeated the Trojans, 78-69.
Troy returns to Trojan Arena after Christmas when Arkansas State visits for the Sun Belt doubleheader opener on Wednesday, Dec. 30. It will $1 Night at Trojan Arena with admission, hot dogs and soft drinks all costing just $1.
