TROY, Alabama – Troy co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Matt Moore has been nominated for the Broyles Award, the Broyles Foundation announced Wednesday. The Broyles Award is presented annually to the nation's top assistant coach.
Moore has tutored an offensive line that currently leads the country with just five sacks allowed and ranks sixth nationally with just 45 tackles for loss allowed this season. Additionally, the Troy offensive line has paved the way for Jordan Chunn to become the ninth 1,000-yard rusher in school history. Chunn leads the Sun Belt with 10 rushing touchdowns and ranks second with 107.9 rushing yards per game.
The Trojans lead the Sun Belt in scoring (34.6), total offense (452.8), first downs (23.8) and red zone efficiency (90 percent). The year prior to Moore's arrival at Troy, the Trojans ranked 111th nationally in sacks allowed. His unit last year finished 38th nationally with just 18 sacks allowed; the Trojans allowed just three sacks over the final six games of the season.
Troy is off to an 8-2 start and became the first Sun Belt Conference team ever start a season 8-1 and to appear in one of the major polls – the Trojans were ranked No. 25 in the Associated Press poll.
The five finalists will be announced on Monday, Nov. 28. The 2016 Broyles Award winner will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 11:30 a.m. at the Marriott Hotel in Little Rock, Ark. The Broyles Award is presented by The Rotary Club of Little Rock and Delta Dental.
