Perfect Game Selects Grant Bennett as Conference Pitcher of the Year

TROY, Alabama – Troy starting pitcher Grant Bennett was named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year last Thursday by Perfect Game.
Perfect Game is the most respected baseball scouting service in the world that covers high school, college and professional baseball.
"It's great that Grant received that type of recognition leading into his senior season," Mark Smartt said. "He is scheduled to be our Friday night starter again which is the most difficult role to fill on any staff. I am confident that he is prepared and ready to face every team's #1 starter and give our team a chance to win. As a first year head coach, I am very fortunate to have his experience and ability at the front of our staff. In my opinion, both Grant and Lucas Brown, who will be our Saturday starter, will be as good a 1-2 combo as there is in the Sun Belt Conference."
Bennett posted a 3.12 ERA and a 9-4 record in 2015. The Hazel Green, Ala., native led the team with 106.2 innings pitched and 84 strikeouts, including a team-high 14 against Georgia Southern.
The Trojans open up their season with a four game series against Northern Kentucky, beginning on Feb. 19 at 6 p.m.
