STATESBORO, Georgia – The Troy baseball team fell to Georgia Southern, 7-0, in game two of the series at J.I. Clements Stadium on Saturday night.
Â
Troy (11-9, 2-3 Sun Belt) only managed to pick up five hits in the game. Each of the hits came from five different players.
Â
Georgia Southern (13-6, 4-1 Sun Belt) took an early 1-0 lead when Logan Baldwin, who had a 3-for4 night with four RBIs, picked up his first hit and RBI of the night with a single up the middle.
Â
The Eagles scored four more runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead. After a Baldwin RBI single, Will Hudgins added three more with a home run – his only hit of the night – to left center field. In the seventh inning Baldwin added two more runs on the board with a single through the left side.
Â
Troy had runners in scoring position two times on the night. Joey Denison reached in the third inning after getting hit by a pitch. He advanced to second on a groundout but would be thrown out at the plate on an infield single two batters later.
Â
The Trojans best scoring chance came in the fourth inning when Troy had runners at the corners with two outs. TJ Binder reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on a perfect hit and run execution by Peyton Fuller. The inning ended four pitches later on a groundout to third.
Â
Chase Cohen (2-1) picked up the win for the Eagles. He pitched six innings, allowed four hits, walked two and struck out two.
Â
Lucas Brown (3-2) suffered the loss on the night as he pitched six innings, allowed five runs on six hits, walked three and struck out five. Robert Harris made an appearance in the game; he pitched the final two innings and allowed two runs on two hits.
Â
The Trojans look to bounce back and win the series on Championship Sunday. First pitch for Sunday's game is set for noon CT. Evan Hebert will get the start on the mound for the Trojans, while the Eagles will send freshman Brian Eichhorn.
