TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's tennis team returns to the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Thursday when the Trojans host Appalachian State at 9 a.m. Admission to all home tennis matches is free.
Troy (9-4, 1-0) spent two weeks in the ITA National Team Rankings, but fell out of this week's rankings after not playing in over a week. The Trojans most recently played last Tuesday when they knocked off Eastern Kentucky, 4-1, in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.
The Trojans have won four of their last five matches, a stretch that started with a 5-2 win over UAB nearly a month ago in Troy's last home match.
Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky have led the Trojans in singles play this spring, posting 8-2 and 9-3 records, respectively. Ohta has played exclusively at No. 3 in the Troy lineup while Karaky has played mostly at No. 5. The pair of sophomores have also combined to post Troy's top doubles record at 8-3.
Appalachian State (4-8, 0-0) hasn't played in nearly two weeks, last taking the court in a 5-2 loss to Richmond on March 11. The Mountaineers were scheduled to play their first Sun Belt match last Sunday against Arkansas State, but the match was postponed.
The Lunsford Tennis Complex will also host three other Sun Belt matches this week. No. 47 Georgia State and Georgia Southern will also square off at 9 a.m. on Thursday. Then on Friday, Appalachian State will take on Georgia State at 10 a.m., and No. 45 South Alabama will play Georgia Southern at 2 p.m.
Troy's next match following Thursday will be on Sunday at Florida State. The Trojans will then return home for a pivotal Sun Belt match against rival South Alabama on Wednesday.
