Troy Closes Weekend Strong

ROCK HILL, South Carolina – The Troy men's tennis team closed its weekend with three wins in four matches thanks to a 4-1 road win over Winthrop on Sunday at the Winthrop Memorial Tennis Courts.
Troy (6-10) lost the doubles point, but played extremely well in singles play to run away with the win. Giovani Samaha and Hassan Ndayishimiye cruised at No. 3 doubles with a 6-0 win, but Winthrop (6-6) won the other two doubles matches to take the opening point.
However, Andy Lau quickly turned the tide for Troy with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ruy Teixeira at No. 5 singles. Pablo Moreno then won his eighth straight match with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Michael Chen at No. 3 singles.
Ndayishimiye won his third straight singles match, giving Troy a 3-1 lead, with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Aditya Gokhale at No. 6 singles. Samaha then clinched the match for Troy with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.
The Trojans will now make a spring break trip to Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., where they will take on UTRGV on Tuesday as part of a busy week.
