TROY, Alabama –The Akron Racers drafted Troy University senior softball player Hannah Day Thursday night during the 2016 National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Senior Draft at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tenn.
Â
Day was chosen as the 30th overall pick with the fourth choice of the fifth round. The selection of Day marks Troy's first ever NPF draft pick, and Day will become the second Trojan to play in the league, joining Heidi Johnson who played for the Akron Racers in 2009.
Â
Day is making quite a bit of noise on the national level. She is currently fourth in the nation in RBIs with 55 and in RBIs per game with 1.38. She ranks 11th nationally in home runs with 15 and in home runs per game with 0.38.
Â
Named USA Softball and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) National Player of the Week, Day has been making a name for herself this season. Her 15 home runs, 55 RBIs, 100 total bases and .769 slugging percentage all lead the club. Day ranks second in hitting for Troy this season with a .346 batting average, 45 hits and eight doubles and her 35 runs scored are third-highest total on the Trojans roster.
Â
"I am extremely proud for both Hannah and the Troy softball program," Head Coach Beth Mullins said. "Hannah is a talented all-around player and will do great things at the next level."
Â
Per NCAA rules, active senior student-athletes cannot sign a professional contract until their college season is complete. The NPF schedule, which will be unveiled at a later date, will run from June through August.
