TROY, Alabama – The Troy softball team split in a doubleheader with Texas State on Saturday at the Troy Softball Complex as they lost the first game, 2-1, and won the second, 3-2.
Â
TROY 1, TXST 2
Â
Despite having eight hits in the game Texas State (26-15, 5-9 Sun Belt) could only push two runs across the plate, but that is all they would need to take the victory from the Trojans in the first game.
Â
The Bobcats were first on the board when Kendall Wiley hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Corinna Liscano who was on with a single through the left side. The final Texas State run came in the sixth inning when Liscano singled up the middle and scored Taylor Webb.
Â
Troy (26-16, 7-7 Sun Belt) only had two hits in the first game with doubles off the bats of Meg Willis and Erica Davis. The Trojans' lone run came in the third inning when Davis scored on a passed ball.
Â
Randi Rupp (18-8) pitched lights out for the Bobcats. She recorded 12 strikeouts and gave up only one unearned run. Quincy Charleston came in relief of Rupp and tossed two innings and gave up only one hit to get the save.
Â
Claire Graves (5-3) suffered the loss for the Trojans in the circle. She tossed a complete game and gave up two runs on eight hits.
Â
TROY 3, TXST 2
Â
The Trojans had hot bats in the second game and racked up eight hits. Hannah Day and Amanda Winters both had two-hit games while Kate Benton, Becca Hartley, Davis and Willis all had one.
Â
Troy jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first when Hannah Day recorded her 57th RBI of the season and singled Benton home.
Â
The final two runs for the Trojans were scored in the second inning. Hartley stepped to the plate and hammered a ball to left center for a double that brought Khadija Neely around for the score. Aggressive base running by Hartley scored the final run for Troy.
Â
The Bobcats' two runs came off the bat of Jaelyn Young when she singled to left center and scored Webb and Ariel Ortiz.
Â
Ashley Rainey (14-11) pitched a complete game and gave up only two runs and recorded two strikeouts. Paige Williams (5-4) took the loss for the Bobcats in the circle. She gave up three runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Â
The final game of the series is Sunday and scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. at the Troy Softball Complex as the Trojans honor our armed services for Military Appreciation Day.
