Troy Softball Travels to Georgia Tech for Last Non-Conference Game

TROY, Alabama – The Troy softball team will hit the road on Wednesday and travel to Atlanta, Ga., to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Shirley Clements Mewborn Field in its last non-conference game of the 2016 season. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Troy (26-17, 7-8 Sun Belt) is looking to bounce back after dropping the conference series against Texas State last weekend. The Trojans split in a doubleheader on Saturday falling 2-1 in the opener and 3-2 in the nightcap. The Bobcats captured the victory in the final game of the series on Sunday with a score of 8-0 in five innings.

Senior Kate Benton still leads the Trojans offensively. She paces the club with a .424 batting average and is second in the Sun Belt with 32 stolen bases. In addition to leading in batting average and stolen bases, she leads the team with 43 runs on 59 hits.

Hannah Day still brings the power for the Trojans at the plate. She leads the Sun Belt with 56 RBIs and is second in the conference with 15 home runs. Day posts a .343 batting average with 47 hits, eight doubles and slugs .745.

Claire Graves and Ashley Rainey lead things in the circle for the Trojans' pitching staff. Graves (5-3) has recorded an ERA of 3.87 and tossed three complete games. She has recorded 42 strikeouts in 81.1 innings of work. Rainey (14-12) has posted a 3.96 ERA in 115 innings pitched. She has 47 strikeouts on the season and has only walked 29 batters.

Georgia Tech (17-27) enters Wednesday's matchup after dropping a series against Pittsburg this past weekend. Courtney Ziese leads the Yellow Jackets offensively. She has a .328 batting average with 42 hits, 31 RBIs and nine home runs.

The Yellow Jackets' pitching staff comes in with a 4.14 team ERA, led by Emily Anderson at 3.02. She has tossed 20 complete games, has given up 82 runs on 161 hits and has recorded 117 strikeouts.

The Trojans lead the all-time series over the Yellow Jackets 13-11. The Trojans were victorious, 4-3, when the two teams squared off last March. Georgia Tech struck first and plated three runs in the top of the third. Troy answered and scored three runs of its own in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game 3-3. The Trojans' winning run came in the bottom of the 11th inning when Amanda Winters hit a walk-off single to clinch the victory.
