Troy Volleyball Adds International Middle Hitter

TROY, Alabama – Head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick and the Troy volleyball program announced the signing of middle hitter Miruna Giurgiu on Friday.

A native of Romania and a current resident of Guadalajara, Spain, the 5-foot-11 middle hitter currently plays for her club team Universitario Guadalajara in the Spanish second division. She also plays for her high school, IES Brianda de Mendoza.

"We are really excited about adding Miruna to our program," Kirkpatrick said. "She has played at a really high level in Spain, and we know that she will have a chance to help us right away. I think that we have added a great group of incoming players to our roster, and I can't wait to get the team back for preseason practices."

In addition to her experience at the club level, Giurgiu has also spent time at the international level as she was part of the 2015 Romania Junior National Team Training Camp.

At the club level, she played in the Spanish Youth League final in 2014 and the Spanish Junior League final in 2015. Prior to her time with Universitario Guadalajara, which began in 2014, Giurgiu spent time with Club Quince.

Giurgiu becomes the fifth member of the Troy's 2016 signing class.
