No. 53 Men's Golf Climbs Leaderboard on Final Day of Hootie Intercollegiate

AWENDAW, S.C. – Troy freshman Calum Masters turned in his third straight top-10 finish to lead the Trojans at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, which concluded Tuesday at the Bulls Bay Golf Club. No. 53 Troy moved up a spot into 10th place after carding a 3-over 291 in the final round.
Masters tied for 10th place with a 1-under 215 in a field that featured 11 players ranked in the top 100 nationally. The Headland, Ala., native picked up victories over eight of those nationally-ranked players, including the nation's No. 7, No. 32, No. 33 and No. 36 ranked individuals.
He fired a 1-over 73 in Tuesday's final round as his card featured three birdies, two bogeys and one double-bogey. Over Masters' last nine rounds, he has posted a 71.11 stroke average as he tied for sixth at the Auburn Intercollegiate, placed third at the Seminole Invitational and tied for 10th this week.
Troy picked up its second victory of the season over No. 31 Kentucky and faired well against one of the toughest tournament fields in the country. The Hootie Intercollegiate featured eight teams ranked in the Golfstat top 50 and No. 16 South Carolina came away with a 15-shot victory over College of Charleston. The Gamecocks were paced by individual medalist Keenan Huskey who carded an 11-under 205 for the tournament.
Luke Moser turned in his best round of the event on Tuesday with a 1-under 71 after birding five straight holes midway through his round. Moser finished in a tie for 56th place with a 9-over 225 for the week.
Clayton Vannoy placed second among Troy individuals in the event as he tied for 36th place. Vannoy turned in a 1-over 73 in the final round paced by three birdies. Cam Norman opened with a birdie on his first hole of the day and finished with a 2-over 74 and a tie for 66th place overall. Jared Bettcher had another up-and-down day for the Trojans with five birdies and three crooked-number bogeys. Bettcher ended the round at 6-over par and finished the tournament in a tie for 69th place.
Next up for Troy will be the Sun Belt Conference Championships on April 24-27 at the Raven Golf Course in Miramar Beach, Fla. The Trojans walked away with a 12-shot victory back in the fall at the Sun Belt Preview, which featured 10 of the 11 league teams at the Raven.
