TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's tennis team inches closer to the end of the regular season as the Trojans travel to Atlanta to take on No. 46 Georgia State and Georgia Southern this weekend. Troy will take on the Panthers at 10 a.m. CT on Friday before playing the Eagles at 9:30 a.m. CT on Saturday.
Â
The weekend's matches were originally scheduled to be play at Appalachian State, but the threat of inclement weather in Boone, N.C., forced the move to Atlanta.
Â
Troy (11-5, 2-1) has won three of its last four matches, with the lone loss being its only Sun Belt loss of the season, 4-3 to No. 43 South Alabama last week at home. Troy most recently beat Alabama A&M, 6-1, at home on Saturday and has now won six of its last eight matches.
Â
Nancy Karaky and Sanae Ohta own the Trojans' top singles records this spring at 12-3 and 10-2, respectively. The pair of sophomores have each won seven straight matches and have also formed Troy's top doubles duo with a 9-3 mark this spring.
Â
Georgia State (10-5, 2-0) has won three straight matches, including a 6-1 win over Charlotte at home last weekend, a win that pushed the Panthers up one spot to No. 46 in the ITA National Team Rankings. The Panthers current winning streak started with a pair of Sun Belt wins over Appalachian State and Georgia Southern in Troy two weeks ago.
Â
Georgia Southern (11-7, 1-2) not only lost to the Panthers during its trip to Troy, but also dropped a match against South Alabama. Since then, the Eagles have bounced back to beat ULM and Savannah State at home.
Â
Following the pair of Sun Belt matches, Troy will close its regular season at No. 69 Florida State next Friday. The Sun Belt Championships then get underway on Thursday, April 21, in New Orleans.
