Throwers Highlight Troy Outdoor at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – Highlighted by three top eight finishes from the throwers, the Troy outdoor track and field team wrapped up regular season play at the Penn Relays on Saturday.

The highest finish from any Trojan was fourth and was claimed by junior Zach Douglas in the shot put competition. His best throw was a 17.54-meter toss that placed him ahead of throwers from Duke, Florida State and Farleigh Dickinson.

On the women's side, Jaevyn Wortham and Corina Cox both finished in the top five in the discus throw. Wortham finished fourth with a 48.88-meter toss, while Cox finished just behind her in fifth with a 47.55-meter toss.

A few notable performances in the field was Douglas' ninth place finish in the men's discus throw, Thomas Servino's 10th place finish in the men's hammer throw and Helga Volgyi's ninth place finish in the women's hammer throw.

The track events were highlighted by the men's eighth place finish of the Men's Spring Medley Championship of America Invitational. Hakim Montgomery, Benjamin Martin, Cameron Rice and Tyson Robinson finished with a 3:27.99 time. The eighth place finish was a above Rhode Island, Maine, Xavier, Stony Brook and South Carolina, just to name a few.

Martin also finished ninth in the men's 100-meter dash with a 10.69 time; the third best in heat two.

The Trojans will travel to Lafayette, La., to compete in the Sun Belt Championships from May 13 to May 15.
