Troy (29-23, 14-12 Sun Belt) poured on nine runs and 15 hits. The Trojans had two players who hit a home run in Peyton Fuller and Justin Friend, while Chase Smartt contributed with three RBIs.
Lucas Brown (7-4) pitched a gem in a winning effort. He went seven innings and only allowed two unearned runs, while picking up seven strikeouts.
Troy gave Brown a 1-0 lead right from the start as Brandon Lockridge reached on an error in the first inning and later scored on a TJ Binder groundout to second. In the third inning, Davis singled home a run and gave the Trojans a 2-0 advantage.
The first home run of the game came from Fuller in the fourth inning when he hit a two-out solo blast to left field. In the fifth with the bases loaded, Smartt hit a two-run double to center field and Whitaker drove in another that extended the Troy lead to 6-1.
Smartt singled again in the seventh inning and scored Denison, who reached after getting hit by a pitch. Troy scored its final two runs in the ninth inning on a Justin Friend solo knock to right field and on a Cameron Sanders sacrifice fly that made the score 9-2.
Georgia State (23-28, 9-17 Sun Belt) scored a run in the ninth inning on a Darius Sewell single to left field, but the game ended on a Brandon Gonzalez fly out to center field.
Denison had a team-high three hits in a 3-for-4 day at the dish. Friend, Davis, Smartt and Fuller had two hits each and one RBI. The only exception was Smartt, who had three RBIs on the day.
The Trojans only struck out one time in Saturday's game, the least amount of strikeouts the team has had all season.
Marc-Andre Habeck (1-5) suffered the loss pitching four innings and giving up six runs – five earned – on seven hits. He walked three and struck out one.
Houston Mabray will toe the rubber for the Trojans on Sunday as they go for the sweep on Sunday. First pitch is set for noon CT.
