Troy Drops Series Finale Against South Alabama to End Regular Season

MOBILE, Alabama – The Troy softball team dropped the series finale with South Alabama 7-0 at Jaguar Field on Sunday in the last game of the 2016 regular season.
Troy (30-23, 11-13 Sun Belt) couldn't push a run across the board in the 7-0 loss to South Alabama and had only two hits in the game.
The two hits came off the bats of Khadija Neely and Becca Hartley. Neely sent a single through the left side in the second inning and Hartley singled to shortstop in the top of the seventh.
South Alabama (32-16, 17-6 Sun Belt) jumped to a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Emily Messer singled up the middle and scored Kaleigh Foster.
Two more runs were added to the scoreboard in the third to stretch the Jaguars lead 3-0. A grand slam off the bat of Haleigh Lane in the sixth inning gave South Alabama the 7-0 victory.
Rachel Rigney (1-2) pitched her first complete game of the season and gave up 13 hits, seven runs and only walked three batters. Devin Brown (20-10) dominated in the circle and got the win for South Alabama. She pitched a shutout, struck out 12 batters and didn't allow a walk.
The Trojans clinched the number six seed in the conference tournament and will play Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at Jaguar Field in Mobile, Ala.
