TROY, Alabama – Troy University soccer head coach Jason Hamilton announced the addition of Colorado transfer Alex Huynh on Friday.
Â
Huynh played over 4,200 minutes in 55 games on the back line for the Buffaloes. Last season, the Australian native helped anchor a defense which posted a 1.32 goals-against average and played the full 90 minutes in Colorado's 1-0 victory over Denver to clinch the Colorado Cup. In 2013, she was the only freshman to start all 23 games.
Â
"Alex is a great edition so close to the start of the season, we know she had a lot of schools interested and we are very happy she chose to come to Troy to finish her playing career and education," Hamilton said. "With our team being so young and talented, bringing in a player with the experience that Alex has will not only help the team this season but also after she is gone."Â
Â
Huynh succeeded on the pitch with multiple teams in high school. A talented player at Australia's first selective sports school, she helped Westfields Sports to four consecutive state championships. She was selected for the Under-15 and U-17 New South Wales (NSW) teams on her way to U-17 and U-20 appearance with the Australian team. She was a member of the Australian Schoolgirls and NSW Combined High Schools teams from 2009-11, winning championships each season, and taking home national titles in 2009 and '10. As a senior, she was a team captain and was named the NSW CHS Player of the Final. She was also awarded NSW CHS Blue in addition to blue honors from Westfields Sporting and Sydney South West as a junior. Huynh also played club ball with Western Sydney.
