Troy Volleyball Opens Season at DoubleTree Hotel Buccaneer Challenge

TROY, Alabama - The Troy volleyball team opens the 2016 regular season in Johnson City, Tenn., by participating in the DoubleTree Hotel Buccaneer Challenge. The Trojans' first game is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m., against USC Upstate.

The Trojans will continue tournament play with two games on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m., when they take on Austin Peay, before battling host ETSU at noon.
The Trojans have a few key pieces returning in seniors Symone Shaw, Leah Causey and Sara Landis along with junior setter Reina Terry. Shaw recorded 197 kills last season and 51 total blocks. Causey, who started all 32 matches in 2015, added 213 kills along with 88 total blocks. Landis is the Trojans' returning kills leader from a year ago. Terry tallied 933 assists last season, which ranked ninth in the Sun Belt.

- Â Avalon Nero recorded 27 service aces, which was tops on the team in 2015.
- Â Reina Terry is currently in seventh place all-time in Troy's history with 1,335 career assists.
-  Troy has won its last two season opening matches including a 3-1 win over Eastern Kentucky in 2015 and a 3-0 victory over Austin Peay in 2014.
