Troy Volleyball Drops Sun Belt Opener to Texas State

TROY, Alabama – The Troy volleyball team fell to Texas State, 3-0, in the Sun Belt Conference opener on Friday night at Trojan Arena.
Troy (6-10, 0-1 Sun Belt) battled and fought in the first set after Texas State (8-9, 1-0 Sun Belt) scored eight unanswered points to take an 11-3 victory. The Trojans battled and tied the set at 14, but the Bobcats ended the match on an 11-5 run to clinch a 25-19 first set victory.
The second set saw the Trojans take an early 5-1 lead, but Texas State stormed back to take a 17-10 lead and eventually win 25-18. Texas State went on a 12-2 run with the final set tied at five, which lead to a 25-17 third set win for the Bobcats.
QUOTABLE
"We knew going into the match that Texas State was going to be one of the top two or three teams in the conference. We knew they were really strong and they showed us exactly what they were made of tonight. At points I thought we competed really, really well. Unfortunately, they got us out of our system a lot."
TURNING POINT
With the Trojans up 3-2 in the first set, Texas State went on an 8-0 run, which gave them a hefty lead. After Troy battled back the Bobcats answered with an 11-3 run that gave them a win in the first set.
STAT OF THE MATCH
Troy scored the first point of each set against Texas State. Symone Shaw had a kill in the first set, a Bobcat attack error gave Troy a 1-0 lead in the second and a Leah Causey kill began the final set.
