TROY, Ala. – Troy will aim to pick up the first Sun Belt win of the season and end 2017 on a high note with a matchup against Georgia State on Sunday at 3:15 p.m. in Trojan Arena.
Â
Both the Trojans (6-8, 0-1) and Panthers (9-5, 0-1) will be seeking the first conference win of the season after suffering losses on the opening day Friday night. Troy led Georgia Southern at half before going through a shooting slump in the second half en route to the 86-80 loss.
Â
Despite the loss, Troy got a huge boost as Jordon Varnado returned to the lineup. The forward, who is the team's leading rebounder and was named Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team, had 18 points off the bench on 7-14 shooting.
Â
His return did not hamper the production of Wesley Person as the guard had his ninth-straight game of 20 points or more and fourth game of 27 points or more after he put up 29 against the Eagles.
Â
Georgia State started the conference slate off against South Alabama with a resounding 86-64 loss. The Panthers shot just 39.7 percent from the floor and were outrebounded 43-26.
