Softball Hosts Troy Classic

TROY, Alabama- Troy is coming off a dominating weekend at the Trojan Classic where they went 5-0. The team returns to the Troy Softball Complex Feb. 24-26, to host the Troy Classic, the last home tournament of the 2017 season.
The Troy Classic will feature games against Lipscomb, Southeastern Louisiana and Pittsburgh. Friday's game against Lipscomb will begin at 5:30 p.m., Saturday's series against Southeastern Louisiana and Pittsburgh will be played at 3 and 5:30 p.m., and Troy will close out the weekend with games against Lipscomb and Southeastern Louisiana at 12:30 and 3 p.m. CT
Troy (8-2) hosted its first tournament of the season last weekend and played games against Jacksonville, Longwood and Samford. The Trojans came out on top as they outscored opponents in all five games 33-15.
Big performances by sophomore Stephanie Snyder and senior Becca Hartley led the efforts for Troy. Snyder leads the team in batting average (.433) after posting 13 hits, including five doubles so far this season.
As the returning home run leader, Hartley is wasting no time trying to break her season record. Last season she blasted 11 homers, and this season she has already posted five, which is tied for seventh in the country. Her 28 career home runs move her into solo possession of the fourth place spot in the Troy record books. Hartley also leads the team in runs scored (13) and RBIs (12).
In the circle for the Trojans, senior left-handed pitcher Rachel Rigney-Brown has a 1.85 era and a 4-1 record. Claire Graves is coming off of a win against Jacksonville where she threw a one-hitter and has a 2.83 era on the season.
SCOUTING REPORT
Lipscomb is coming off a 4-1 weekend at the Wyndham Garden Cougar classic in Charleston, S.C., and is now 6-4 on the season. Pitcher McCarley Thomas was named Softball Pitcher of the Week by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association as she threw 20 strikeouts in 17.1 innings.
The Southeastern Louisiana Lions posted a 3-1 record last weekend at the 2017 Lion Classic II, and improve to 6-3 on the season. The Lions return senior third baseman Mychal Truxillo, who was named to the 2017 Preseason All-Southland Conference Softball Second Team.
The No. 19/20 Pittsburgh Panthers will be the first ranked team that the Trojans face this year. They are undefeated at 9-0 on the season. They are coming off four wins at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, where they defeated both Nebraska and Northwestern twice.
NOTEWORTHY
•Troy is 4-2 all-time against Lipscomb and 14-8 all-time against Southeastern Louisiana. This will be the first match up in Troy's Division I history against Pittsburgh.
• The Trojans take the second place spot in the conference standings with an 8-2 overall record, right behind in-state rival South Alabama who is 9-1 on the season.
• Troy looks to expand its seven game win streak heading into the Troy Classic.
• Hartley has a hit in every game this season except for one, and ranks 28th in the nation in RBIs with 12.
