Troy Travels to UAB for Mid-Week Tilt

TROY, Alabama – Coming off a series victory at New Orleans, the Troy baseball team hits the road Tuesday for its first mid-week contest of the season as the Trojans take on UAB at Regions Field. First pitch was bumped back two hours to 6 p.m. after Birmingham took on heavy rain Monday.

Steven Whitaker led the Trojans (4-3) during their series with the Privateers as he hit .462 (6-of-13) with six stolen bases and a .995 OPS. Troy also received solid offensive production from Matt Sanders (5-for-11) and Brandon Lockridge (6-for-16); Sanders hit his first home run of the season, while Lockridge extended his hitting streak to seven games.

Troy belted three home runs in the series to push its total to five on the season – the Trojans didn't hit their fifth home run until their 15^th game of the season last year. Troy also stole 10 bases in the series, with eight coming in the opener Friday night.

The Trojan bullpen continued its strong start to the season as six pitchers combined to allow just four earned runs over 17.2 innings of work against the Privateers. On the season, Troy's bullpen carries a 2.88 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 34.1 innings of work.

Senior southpaw Austin Crook will make his 2017 debut Tuesday night as he is scheduled to make the start on the mound for the Trojans. Crook missed the entire 2016 season with an injury after going 4-0 with 52.2 innings of work in 2015.

UAB (5-2) took two-of-three from Valparaiso over the weekend after opening the season with a three-game sweep of Creighton; the Blazers dropped a 7-2 decision to Alabama State in their lone mid-week game of the season.

The Blazers will turn to sophomore right-hander Kyle Davis (0-0, 0.00) to make the start on the mound; he tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in relief against Alabama State.
