Troy Baseball Set for Mid-Week Double-Dip with Samford

TROY, Alabama – Coming off a Sun Belt road series victory, the Troy baseball team gears up for a home-and-home mid-week series with Samford. The Bulldogs travel to Troy on Tuesday and the Trojans make the return trip to Birmingham on Wednesday; both games are scheduled for 6 p.m.
Troy (11-7) took two-of-three at Little Rock over the weekend for the Trojans' first series victory in a Sun Belt opener since 2014 and the first time Troy has opened Sun Belt play on the road and won the series.
The Trojans got excellent starting pitching from Daren Osby and Austin Crook in the opening two games of the series and the offense exploded for a combined 11 runs in the seventh and eighth innings of both games.
Mason Rogers led the Trojans at the dish as he hit .667 (4-of-6) on the weekend with a double and a home run, while Brandon Lockridge picked up five base hits and a pair of doubles. Third baseman Drew Frederic extended his hitting streak to 10 games over the weekend and Lockridge ran his reached base streak out to 18 games.
Troy enters the mid-week set against Samford ranked 30th nationally with 1.61 stolen bases per game. The Trojans have stolen 29 bases on the season and have only been caught six times; on the flip side, Troy has thrown out eight of 20 potential base stealers.
Samford (12-7) took two-of-three from Eastern Michigan last weekend and the Bulldogs have mid-week wins against Auburn and Alabama on its resume this season. Samford ranks 14th nationally with 24 home runs on the season, while the Bulldogs' Kevin Williams, Jr., is tied for fifth with eight homers on the year.
