Trojans Hold On For 4-3 Win Over Winthrop

TROY, Alabama – The winning ways continued for Troy men's tennis as the Trojans notched a close 4-3 win over Winthrop on Saturday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
Troy (5-6) inched closer to getting back to .500 on the year in the win. It wasn't an ideal day on the doubles side, but the Trojans went 4-1 in singles play to come away with the victory.
The stellar freshman season for Amer Bedwan continued as he won 6-4 in straight sets over Aditya Gokhale. His two-set victory was matched by Pablo Moreno, who had a 6-2, 6-4 win over Leandro Pappayiannis.
Those two were joined by Jaiqi Duan and Andy Lau as the other two point getters on the day. Lau broke a 6-4, 4-6 tie to win with a 6-1 advantage in the third set. Duan went down 2-6 in the first set but came back with a 6-1 win in the second and 7-5 win in the third.
NOTEWORTHY
• The win marks the third consecutive win for Troy after starting the season 2-6.
• Amer Bedwan has yet to lose a singles dual match as the freshman moved to 8-0 to start the season.
