TROY, Alabama – Troy senior forward Caitlyn Ramirez has been named All-Sun Belt Conference First Team, the league announced on Monday.
Ramirez finished the regular season averaging a double-double with 13.0 points and a league-high 10.0 rebounds per game. She ranks 25th in the NCAA in rebounding average and 27th with 291 total rebounds, a mark that also stands as the second-most in Troy's Division I single-season history.
The Shawnee, Okla., native set the Troy Division I single-game record with 20 rebounds in the Trojans' regular season opener at Auburn and tied the mark against Georgia State. Ramirez scored 12 or more points in 19 games this season including 14 straight in conference play. She posted 10 double-doubles including five 15-plus rebound games.
Ramirez twice earned Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honors. The first came after she averaged 19 points and 12.5 rebounds against Texas State and UT Arlington, then again when she turned in 21.5 points and 13 rebounds against Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina.
Entering the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, Ramirez ranks 11th in the league in scoring (13.0 ppg), sixth in field goal percentage (.455) and fourth in steals (2.1 spg). Ramirez is a two-time All-Sun Belt selection after being named to the third team last season. She was also an All-Sun Belt Preseason First Team selection this year.
Ramirez graduated with a degree in criminal justice and is working on a master's in the same field.
Third-seeded Troy plays in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of the No. 6 Georgia Southern-No. 11 Arkansas State game. The Trojans won the tournament last season earning the program's second-ever NCAA Tournament berth.
