TROY, Alabama – The Troy baseball team returns home for the first time since the opening weekend of the season for a four-game series with Hofstra this weekend at Riddle-Pace Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, 1 p.m. for Saturday's doubleheader and 12 p.m. for Sunday's series finale.
The Trojans (6-5) enter Friday's contest looking to bounce back from a pair of close losses at the Cox Diamond Invitational last weekend in Pensacola. Troy defeated Seton Hall in the opener of the round robin event, before falling to South Alabama and Southeastern Louisiana in the final two games by a combined three runs.
A pair of sophomores are riding hitting streaks for the Trojans as second baseman Brandon Lockridge has hit safely in all 11 games this season, while catcher Chase Smartt has hit safely in six straight games and is batting .419 over the past eight games. Trevor Davis led the Trojans over the weekend as he hit .700 (7-for-10) with four runs scored and a pair of RBIs.
Head coach Mark Smartt will turn to junior right-hander Daren Osby (2-1, 3.78) for the second straight Friday. Osby allowed just one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts over six innings last week in a victory over Seton Hall.
A pair of left-handers will make the starts in Saturday's doubleheader with Evan Hebert (0-0, 3.24) getting the call in the opener and Austin Crook (1-0, 2.70) handling the nightcap; Crook was scheduled to start Troy's game at Alabama on Tuesday that was postponed due to weather. Senior right-hander Houston Mabray (1-0, 2.70) will start the series finale.
Hofstra (3-8) played its first 10 games of the season on the road before a 14-3 victory over New York Tech on Wednesday night in the Pride's home opener. The Pride spent their first two weekends of the season in Louisiana with tournaments at Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls State before a three-game set at Charleston Southern last weekend.
