COLLEGE GROVE, Tennessee – Troy fired a 4-over 292 in Tuesday second round of the NCAA College Grove Regional at The Grove; the Trojans slipped back three spots into sixth place but are just three shots off an NCAA Championship qualifying spot.
The top five teams and the top individual not on a qualifying team advance to the NCAA Championship. Vanderbilt is 12-under through two rounds and holds an eight-shot lead over Lipscomb, Clemson and Central Florida, while Kennesaw State sits at 1-under in fifth and Troy is 2-over in sixth. Georgia and Middle Tennessee are tied for seventh at 10-over.
Clayton Vannoy rebounded from a 5-over 77 in Monday's first round to lead Troy with a 1-under 71 as he played the front nine at 1-under and the back nine even. Vannoy birdied three of the four par 5s and moved into a tie for 36th place overall.
Cam Norman maintained his top-10 standing on the leaderboard as he is in sole possession of sixth place at 4-under after shooting 1-over on the day. Norman made the turn 2-over with one birdie on the front nine and pulled even with back-to-back birdies on No. 13 and No. 14 before a bogey on No. 17 set his card.
Norman currently holds down the individual qualifying spot for the NCAA Championship as the top individual on a non-qualifying team. Norman has a 1-shot lead over four players tied for seventh place, two of whom are currently not on qualifying teams.
Calum Masters raced out to 2-under after birdies on No. 1 and No. 2, but made the turn at even par. A bogey on No. 13 pushed his card to 1-over and an unfortunate turn of events on No. 17 led to a bogey as his tee shot hit a golf cart parked too closely to the fairway. He shot 2-over on the day and is tied for 27th at 3-over for the tournament.
Jared Bettcher and Luke Moser are tied with Vannoy for 35th place after rounds of 74 and 76, respectively. Bettcher made the turn even after birdies on No. 8 and No. 9 and closed strong with a birdie on No. 18. Moser had a pair of birdies on his card and finished strong playing the back nine at 1-over.
Troy will be in the first group out for Wednesday's final round as the Trojans will hit the course at 7:50 a.m. alongside Kennesaw State and Central Florida.

"We didn't have our best stuff today and when it got a little windy we didn't play to the best of our abilities. The good thing is our guys fought really hard today and we've got an opportunity tomorrow. We go off first off the front in sixth place – five go and we've got to find a way to beat those teams ahead of us. We've got to hit more greens tomorrow and eliminate any goofy mistakes and if we do that I like our chances.
"It was exciting to see Clay respond and hopefully that response will continue for him tomorrow. He took it pretty hard yesterday, but that is what you do, you come back and you play well.
