SUGAR GROVE, Illinois – Cam Norman capped the best individual performance in Troy's Division I men's golf history as he tied for 23rd place at the NCAA Championship after shooting a 1-over 289 at Rich Harvest Farms. Noman shot a 2-over 74 in Monday's final round as one of just nine individuals to make the cut for the final 18 holes.
The senior from Greenville, Ala., entered the NCAA Championship ranked 316th nationally and finished as one of just nine golfers ranked outside of the top 100 to finish in the top 23 at the championship event.
Norman opened the final round in grand style as he chipped in from over the green from 70 feet out on the 562-yard, par-5 No. 2 for one of just 17 eagles on the hole over the course of the four days.
That would be his only sub-par hole of the day as winds were a constant 20 to 25 mph throughout the day. The average card turned in during the final round – which featured only the top-15 teams and top-9 individuals in the field – was 77.25 or +5.25 over par.
Norman finished the week 3-under on the par-5 holes, even on the par-3s and 4-over on the par-4 holes. He picked up victories over eight of the top nine ranked players in the country; the nation's seventh-ranked player did not make the championship field.
He made the turn even after a bogey on No. 7 and No. 8 and pushed his card to 1-over with a bogey on No. 11. Norman followed with four straight pars before a bogey on No. 16 settled his card at 2-over for the day.

"Cam represented himself, our golf program and Troy University in a first-class manner all weekend long. To finish in the top 25 at the NCAA Championship is a truly remarkable accomplishment and one that Cam should be very proud of. What he did this weekend was no fluke. He went toe-to-toe with the best golfers in the nation for 72 holes and proved that he belonged in this field."
