TROY, Alabama – Troy women's basketball head coach Chanda Rigby announced the addition of transfer Chelsey Gibson to the Trojan roster on Thursday.
Gibson, a 6-foot guard, comes to Troy after spending last season at Marquette where the Pensacola native was a member of the Golden Eagles team that won the Big East Tournament and earned the program's first NCAA berth since 2011. Gibson transferred to Marquette from Gulf Coast State College in Panama City, Florida.
"I have watched Chelsey grow as a player since her high school days at Pensacola High School playing under Coach Allison Davis," Rigby said. "She is a versatile player who can contribute many things from many positions. She is a seasoned, confident player who brings a wealth of experience in what it takes to win championships."
Ranked the No. 23 overall player and No. 4 guard among junior college players by ESPN, Gibson averaged 12.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game as a freshman while totaling 19 points and 8.9 rebounds in her sophomore season. She earned WBCA Coaches JUCO All-American and FSCAA Region 8 All-State First Team honors. Gibson was tabbed First Team All-Panhandle Conference both seasons at Gulf Coast.
The Trojans are coming off back-to-back Sun Belt Conference Tournament titles and NCAA Tournament appearances. The team looks to replace seven seniors including First Team All-Sun Belt selection Caitlyn Ramirez.
