Troy Signee Named 2017 Miss Softball

TROY, Alabama- Troy softball signee Annie Willis was named the 2017 Alabama Miss Softball, the Alabama Sports Writers Association announced Sunday night at the organization's annual convention in Hoover.

Willis, a right-handed pitcher, accumulated a 43-3-1 record in the circle her senior season at Westminster Christian High School in Huntsville, Ala. She recorded a staggering 543 strikeouts through 259.2 innings pitched and posted a 0.40 ERA.

Willis threw 23 shutouts on the year, five no-hitters and three perfect games to help her team become the Class 4A state runners-up. Willis lead the nation in strike outs as a sophomore, junior and senior, and finished her senior season ranked second in the country in wins.

The senior also had high offensive production for the Wildcats. She finished the season with a .456 average at the plate with 70 runs, 40 hits, 12 home runs and 64 RBIs and went 5-for-5 in stolen bases.

Willis finished her career fourth in AHSAA history with 160 wins and 1,975 strikeouts and was also named as the AL.com Huntsville Region Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year. Willis follows her sister, Meg, to Troy who just completed a four year playing career with the Trojans.
