TROY, Alabama – Coming off its best season at the FBS level, Troy has been picked to finish second in the Sun Belt Conference in a vote by the league's 12 head coaches, the conference office announced Thursday.
Troy received a pair of first place votes and tallied 127 overall points, just nine points behind preseason favorite Appalachian State, which received 136 points and seven first place votes. Arkansas State, UL Lafayette and New Mexico State received the other first place votes; coaches were allowed to vote for their own teams.
The second-place prediction is Troy's highest since the Trojans were also picked to finish second heading into the 2011 season. Troy was slotted to finish fifth last season before posting a 10-3 overall record and 6-2 league mark; the Trojans tied with Idaho for third in the league just a game behind App State and Arkansas State.
Arkansas State was picked to finish third in this season's poll followed by South Alabama, UL Lafayette, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, ULM, New Mexico State, Texas State and Coastal Carolina.
The Preseason All-Sun Belt Teams will be released Friday morning in advance of the league's annual Media Day on Monday.
Season ticket packages for Troy's six home games start at low as $60 for general admission seats and fans have multiple options to choose from including Family 4-Packs, Stadium Club and reserved seating.
