Troy Soccer Falls at No. 7 Florida

TROY, Alabama – Seventh-ranked Florida scored three times in the first half and added two more in the second half to run away with a 5-0 victory over Troy at James G. Pressly Stadium on Sunday.
The Gators tallied 23 shots, 15 on target, while Troy (0-2) managed just one. Florida scored in the 11th, 28th, 36th, 47th and 86th minute the last of which was off a penalty awarded after the Trojans were called for a handball inside the 18-yard box.
Florida (2-0) opened the scoring when Deanne Rose slipped behind the Troy defense, fielded a pass from Sammie Betters and chipped Troy goalkeeper Haleigh Mercer. Just over a quarter of an hour later, Gabby Seiler doubled the Gators lead when she scored from 10 yards away. Brittany Bennett capped the first half scoring with a laser into the top right corner in the 36th minute effectively putting the game out of reach.
UP NEXT
Troy travels to Montgomery to face Alabama State on Tuesday. The Trojans are 11-0 all-time against the Hornets including a 4-1 win last season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
NOTEWORTHY
• 21 Trojans saw action on Sunday. Redshirt freshman Haleigh Mercer made her debut by getting the start in goal. Junior Annie Kallay also made her debut as a reserve for Troy.
• Florida was the third-ever ranked opponent that Troy has faced in it's program history. The Trojans fell to No. 12 Florida State in 2007 and No. 1 Florida State in overtime last season.
