ROCKY FACE, Georgia – The Troy men's golf team finished in 15th place at the season-opening Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm as play concluded on Sunday. Junior Calum Masters led the Trojans with a 9-over 225 over the 54-hole event.
The field will go down as one of the strongest of the entire season as it featured 10 teams that finished last season ranked in the top 50. Georgia Tech and Alabama rallied past Florida to tie for first place with the Yellow Jackets claiming the title in a playoff, while Auburn placed third and LSU finished fourth.
Junior Dean Martin paced the Trojans in Sunday's final round with a 2-over 74 to tie for 60th place overall at 11-over. Martin made the turn at 1-over with three birdies over his first six holes and followed with two birdies on the back nine.
For the second time in three rounds, Masters raced out to a hot start as he birdied two of the first three holes; he opened Friday's round with four straight birdies. Masters eventually made the turn at 2-over and finished his round at 4-over to tie for 54th place overall.
Connor Futrell ended his first collegiate tournament with a round of 5-over thanks to three birdies, including two over his first three holes. Futrell tied for 70th place at 14-over, while Ike Alexander shot 5-over on the day and 16-over for the tournament to place 75th. Mac Murphy rounded out the field for the Trojans in 81st place.
Florida's Alejandro Tosti led wire-to-wire to claim individual medalist honors with an 11-under 205.
Troy will be back in action Sept. 25-26 at the Shoal Creek Invitational hosted by UAB in Birmingham.
