Need to Know – Troy Football Gameday at The Vet; Akron Game

TROY, Alabama – Fans coming to The Vet this season will continue to enjoy the traditions of Troy gameday, while being treated to some new and improved events around town and campus. Here is a look at what's on tap for Saturday's game against Akron which kicks off at 5 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to visit TroyTrojans.com/Gameday prior to each visit to campus to see the latest information on parking, traffic flow and tickets for each of Troy's six home games.
Saturday is Troy's annual Military Appreciation Game and Troy Athletics is rolling out the red carpet to honor those who serve and have served our country.
• During the Sound of the South's pregame show and playing of the national anthem and "America the Beautiful", an American flag will cover the entire playing surface of Larry Blakeney Field, while two F-16 fighter jets from the 187th Fighter Wing of the Alabama Air National Guard will perform a flyover of the stadium. Fans are encouraged to be inside The Vet no later than 4:40 p.m. to witness the pregame festivities.
• The Troy University Barnes & Noble Bookstore is selling a special Military Appreciation Game T-shirt with the military themed Power T that will be featured on Troy's helmets for the game. The bookstore will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on gameday.
• The Troy University Barnes & Noble Bookstore will offer a 25 percent discount to all active, retired and reserve military with proper military ID from the start of business Friday through the end of Sunday. The special discount will be available in-store only and will be on the entire purchase.
• A representative from each branch of the military will join Troy players and coaches for Trojan Walk in Tailgate Terrace at 2:45 p.m.
• When the Trojans take the field from the North End Zone Facility minutes before the game, players with an American flag and flags from each branch of the military will lead them onto the field.
• Between the first and second quarter, the Sound of the South will perform the service song of each branch, and members or veterans of each branch will be invited to stand and be honored during the playing of their service song.
Parents and Family Weekend
All parents and family members of current Troy students are eligible to take advantage of this great offer. Use promo code PARENT when purchasing tickets online in order to purchase $20 tickets that include admission to the game as well as a pregame tailgate for participants in Tailgate Terrace.
Sound of the South Band Day
Troy's annual high school band celebration at The Vet. High school bands will perform at halftime of the game. For more details about this event, visit soundofthesouth.org.
Boy Scouts Day
All Boy Scouts are invited to join us for a fun-filled day at The Vet. Members of the Boy Scouts will also be able to participate in their annual Camporee on campus. To register, please contact Larry Newton with the Boy Scouts at Larry.Newton@scouting.org. The Boy Scouts will host a campout on campus Friday and Saturday.
Special Olympics Day at The Vet
All Special Olympics athletes are invited to come cheer on Troy football as part of the Military Appreciation Game. To register your group, please contact Kyle George at kylegeorge@troy.edu. During the game, we will recognize the athletes from Special Olympics.
Extra Yard for Teachers
Troy football joins this College Football Playoff national campaign as we recognize the impact teachers have in the lives of our students. We will recognize two local teachers during the game.
Troy Preview Day
Students interested in attending Troy University are invited to visit campus as part of this preview event put on by the Office of Admissions. To register, please contact the Troy University Office of Admissions at 1-800-414-5756.
Trojan Talk
Troy's weekly radio show with head football coach Neal Brown and "Voice of the Trojans" Barry McKnight airs live from 6 to 7 p.m. on the Troy Sports Radio Network. Fans in Troy can catch the show live at Santa Fe Cattle Company and enjoy half-priced appetizers and drink specials.
Sonic Kids Zone
The Sonic Kids Zone opens at 1 p.m. and is located in the outfield of Riddle-Pace Field. Children of all ages are invited to take part in the fun with free inflatables until 4:30 p.m.
Trojan Walk
Troy's traditional pre-game march into Veterans Memorial Stadium, Trojan Walk, will begin at the intersection of University Avenue and George Wallace Drive. The Trojans will walk through the brick portal into Tailgate Terrace before entering the stadium at Gate 1. Trojan Walk will begin at 2:45 p.m. for the Akron game and will feature members of the military.
Troy Sports Radio Network Pregame Show
Join "Voice of the Trojans" Barry McKnight, game analyst Jerry Miller and sideline reporter Chris Blackshear live from the Troy University Alumni House from 3-4 p.m. for the first hour of the Troy Sports Radio Network Pregame Show.
Tailgating with the Trojans
Troy's new "Tailgating with the Trojans" show will be hosted by Troy University graduate Melanie Newman. The show, which will be released following a home game via Troy's social media accounts, will highlight all of the great tailgating that takes place during Troy football games.
ScreenTech Stadium Store
Fans can purchase the latest in Troy gear from the ScreenTech Stadium Store located in Tailgate Terrace right outside of Gate One beginning at 1 p.m. and inside The Vet once gates to the stadium open at 3:30 p.m.
Guardian Credit Union Fan Zone
New this season is the Guardian Credit Union Fan Zone located in Tailgate Terrace. Fans will have the opportunity to receive free T-shirts, water, fans, Troy face tattoos and koozies. Guardian Credit Union will also be on hand for fans to sign up for Troy University debit and credit cards.
In-Game Host
Troy University graduate Melanie Newman enters her first year as the on-field emcee for Troy football games. Newman has experience working with Major League Baseball, the Arizona Fall League, the Mobile BayBears and the ACC Network.
Student Promotions
The first 1,000 Troy University students inside The Vet on Saturday will receive free koozies courtesy of Guardian Credit Union.
