Men’s Golf Adds Pair from State Championship Squad

TROY, Alabama – Troy men's golf head coach Bart Barnes announced the addition of Kyle Cornelius and Will McFadden to join the Trojans beginning with the 2018-19 season. The pair have helped lead St. Paul's High School to back-to-back Alabama 5A state championships.
"I am very proud to announce the signing of Kyle Cornelius and Will McFadden to the Troy golf program," Barnes said. "Both Kyle and Will have enjoyed very successful junior and high school golf careers. I am excited to add two players with their championship pedigree to our program."
Cornelius was named to the AL.com Super All-State Golf Team following his sophomore season after he turned in nine top-10 finishes, a pair of victories – including the 5A Sub State – and set the AHSAA record with a 9-under 63 in the final round of the state final which helped lead the Saints to the first of their two consecutive titles.
In addition to helping lead St. Paul's to a state title last year as a junior, Cornelius finished in the top five as a seventh grader as the Saints claimed the Alabama state championship.
Additionally, Cornelius has strived on the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour circuit with a win and four top-10 finishes in six events in 2010 and seven top 10s in eight junior tournaments in 2015. Cornelius won the 13-14-year-old division of the Future Masters in 2014 and the SJGT TPC Sawgrass Classic (14-15-year-old).
McFadden won the Alabama 5A individual state title in 2017 after shooting a 2-under 70 in the final round after also winning medalist honors at the 5A Sub State. He tied with Cornelius for the 2017 Mobile Metro Championship at 2-under after winning the 2016 title outright at 4-under.
He finished second with a 9-under at the 2016 Alabama 5A state championship and qualified for the prestigious Bobby Chapman Invitational. McFadden was a member of three state championship teams at St. Paul's as a seventh, 10th and 11th grader.
The Troy men's golf team has competed in three straight NCAA Regionals and won the 2016 Sun Belt Conference title. The Trojans have sent a golfer to the NCAA Championship field in two of the past three seasons.
