Troy Hopes To Rebound Against Appalachian State On Monday

TROY, Alabama. – Following a loss against Coastal Carolina at home on Saturday, Troy will look to rebound in a rescheduled game against Appalachian State on Monday with crucial positioning in the Sun Belt Standings on the line.

The Trojans (8-11, 2-4) looked to be in position to earn a victory against the Chanticleers with a 13-point lead with 13:09 remaining, but Troy was only able to get two field goals for the rest of the game with Coastal Carolina gaining a powerful 48-30 edge in rebounds.

In the loss, Wesley Person became the all-time leader in made 3-pointers when he hit his 324th career three in the first half. The senior now sits just 27 points shy of becoming the all-time leading scorer in Troy history, which would surpass Anthony Reed's record of 1,865.

Troy was at a disadvantage on the boards against Coastal Carolina after leading rebounder Alex Hicks fouled out of the game with 7:05 remaining. The 6-8 forward, who is averaging 8.2 rebounds per game, was only able to play 11 minutes in the loss.

Appalachian State (8-12, 3-4) sits just ahead of Troy in the Sun Belt standings nearing the halfway point of the conference season. The Mountaineers have lost three-straight after jumping out to a 3-1 start in the Sun Belt schedule.

• Suits and Sneakers – Tomorrow is the kickoff of Coaches vs. Cancer and our men's basketball staff will be wearing Sneakers with their Suits tomorrow night. If you feel so inclined, please feel free to wear your favorite pair of Adidas as a visual representation that nutrition and physical activity can reduce cancer risk. This is an initiative that the Sun Belt Conference is supporting and encouraging all schools to take part in.
• 3.0 GPA Club – Thanks to our great Student-Athlete Services Staff, we will be honoring a large number of our student-athletes tomorrow evening during halftime for achieving a 3.0 or higher during the Fall 2017 Semester.Â
• College of Arts & Sciences Night – We will have several members of the college join us as our guests and will be recognizing two of their distinguished faculty members during the game as well.
• Student Promotions – The first 200 students who arrive for the doubleheader will receive a #OneTROY thermal cup and all students in attendance will receive a voucher that permits them to purchase the Dollar Day items.Â
NOTEWORTHY
• Wesley Person will have at least 13 more games to become the first ever Trojan with 2,000 points. He will need to average 11.6 points per game in that span to do so. His scoring average this season is 19.4 points per game.

• Despite missing seven games due to a foot injury, Jordon Varnado has scored in double-digits in every game after scoring 21 against Coastal Carolina.

• Troy will go back out on the road with games at ULM on Thursday and at UL Lafayette on Saturday.
