Troy Falls at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, South Carolina – The free throw line was kind to Coastal Carolina as the Chanticleers outshot Troy 39-11 from the charity stripe en route to an 84-71 win over the Trojans on Thursday in the HTC Center.
Jas Adams scored 40 points on 9-of-18 shooting, but did the majority of her damage at the free throw line going 16 of 21 on the night. As a team, Troy was 9 of 11 at the line. Adams posted a double-double with 11 rebounds.
Coastal Carolina (13-12, 8-5 Sun Belt) scored 28 points at the free throw line courtesy of 28 Trojan personal fouls. Tied at 31 in the second quarter, the Chanticleers scored four of the final six points from the free throw line to finish the half on a 10-0 run, while 11 of CCU's 23 points came from via free throw in the period.
Troy (13-11, 8-5) cut the deficit to five with 8:36 left in the third quarter, but CCU went the line on three consecutive trips down the court making all six shots, and after a 3-pointer by Adams, expanded the lead back to 12.
Sky'Lynn Holmes posted her fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds as well as three blocks. Jasmine Sanders scored a career-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting and was 4 of 8 from beyond the arc.
UP NEXT
Troy travels to Appalachian State on Saturday for a 1 p.m. (CT) tip. The Trojans won the last meeting 81-74 on Jan. 22.

• Coastal Carolina's 39 free throw attempts are tied for the most against Troy this season. Middle Tennessee took 39 free throw attempts on Dec. 14.
• Troy's 11 free throw attempts are tied for the fewest attempted by the team this season. The Trojans took just 11 shots at South Alabama on Jan. 13.
