TUCSON, Ariz. – Stephanie Snyder made her return to the field with a bang as she highlighted Troy's 5-2 win over Bryant with a crushed grand slam in the first inning, the first of her career. The Trojans fell in their second game of the day 5-0 to Colorado State to move to 4-3 on the season.
Â
Game one: Troy 5, Bryant 2
Bryant's defense was slow to start as two straight errors from the shortstop put Logan Calhoun and Katie Webb on base. Madeline Porter walked to load the bases as Snyder stepped up to the plate. On a 2-1 count, Snyder connected to send the ball back home to Troy, clearing the bases with no outs.
Â
Defense was strong for both sides, until Bryant's offense was able to answer back with a two-run shot over the left-center wall to cut Troy's lead to two, but Troy held strong as it allowed no more runs in the game.
Â
Senior Erica Davis led off the sixth inning with a single up the middle and advanced to second off a sacrifice bunt from Brooke Echols. Carli Kayler got on the board with an RBI single, scoring Davis from third before the Bulldogs got out of the inning.
Â
Claire Graves moved to 2-1 on the season earning the win after taking over in the fourth inning for Kynsley Rae Blasingame, who made her first career appearance for Troy. Graves finished the game with five strikeouts, only allowing one hit.
Â
Â
Game Two: Troy 0, Colorado State 4
The offense struggled to get anything going against Colorado State, putting up three hits, but scoring no runs.
Â
The Rams' Cori Gamboa hit a hard single down the left field line scoring a runner from third to take an early 1-0 lead, but Troy was able to get out of the inning, stranding two Colorado State players on base.
Â
The Trojans posted one hit in the bottom of the first inning from third baseman Madeline Porter, but fly balls and a strikeout left Troy short. Neither team could barrel the ball in the second inning.
Â
The Rams expanded their lead in the third with a single, an RBI triple and another RBI single to take a 3-0 lead before Kayler made a catch in center field to get the Trojans out of trouble.
Â
Taylor Corbett got her first hit of the night, but was thrown out at second after a fielder's choice from Logan Calhoun. The Rams turned a double play clearing the bases and getting out out of the inning.
Colorado State added two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings, as Troy was not able to rally to get any runs across the plate.
Â
Graves made the start in the circle and took the loss to move to 2-2 on the year, before Peyton Glover entered in the fifth inning, throwing three strikeouts and and only allowing one run.
